Complete Home Electrification & Ventilation Upgrade in Minneapolis, MN
This South Minneapolis project involved the complete removal of gas heating equipment and the transition to a fully electric, high-performance comfort system.
The home was upgraded with a Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat cold-climate heat pump system, electric backup heat, and a modern Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to support indoor air quality in a tightened building envelope.
The result is a fully electrified home designed for efficiency, comfort, and long-term performance in Minnesota’s climate.
A Fully Electric System Designed Around Building Science
This project was approached with a long-term strategy focused on reducing energy demand before upgrading mechanical systems. The homeowners first improved the building envelope through air sealing, insulation upgrades, and high-performance windows.
Only after reducing heat loss and infiltration was the HVAC system redesigned and replaced with a cold-climate heat pump solution and balanced ventilation system.
VisionAiry Heating & Cooling designed and installed a complete mechanical system aligned with modern building science principles, ensuring performance, efficiency, and indoor air quality.
Envelope-First Design
The home was upgraded with air sealing, insulation, and high-performance windows before HVAC replacement.
Full Electrification
Gas heating was completely removed and replaced with an all-electric system.
Integrated Ventilation
A new ERV system ensures balanced airflow and healthy indoor air in a tight home.
BEFORE THE UPGRADE
Legacy Equipment and Inefficient Airflow
Before the upgrade, the home relied on aging mechanical equipment and an outdated ventilation system that no longer aligned with the performance goals of the property.
As the building envelope was improved, the need for a properly designed mechanical system became more critical.
The project required not just equipment replacement, but a complete system redesign to ensure efficient heating, proper airflow, and balanced ventilation.
Remaining gas heating system in place
Outdated air-to-air exchanger
Increased need for controlled ventilation after air sealing
Opportunity to transition to full electrification
Need for long-term system performance and efficiency
THE INSTALLATION
Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat System with Integrated Ventilation Upgrade
The installation included a Mitsubishi Electric ducted Hyper-Heat system with electric backup heat, along with a complete Energy Recovery Ventilator upgrade to support indoor air quality in a high-performance home.
The system was designed to deliver reliable heating performance in cold Minnesota winters while maintaining efficient cooling and airflow throughout the year.
Careful attention was given to system layout, airflow design, and clean installation standards to ensure long-term serviceability and consistent performance.
Outdoor Heat Pump System
A Mitsubishi Electric SUZ-AK24NLHZ Hyper-Heat outdoor unit was installed with an elevated mounting system for proper snow and defrost clearance.
Indoor Air Handler & Filtration
The SVZ air handler was paired with an 8kW electric backup heater, upgraded return system, and a 20x25x4 filtration cabinet with MERV 11 filtration.
Balanced Ventilation Upgrade
A new Broan AI Series ERV system was installed with hard ducting, touchscreen controls, and full system balancing for proper airflow and indoor air quality.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Why Ventilation Is Critical in High-Performance Homes
As homes become tighter through air sealing and insulation improvements, natural air leakage is reduced. While this improves efficiency, it also makes proper ventilation essential.
Without controlled ventilation, indoor air quality, humidity levels, and overall comfort can suffer.
The new ERV system continuously exchanges stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while recovering heat energy, maintaining efficiency while improving air quality and comfort.
Continuous fresh air exchange
Heat recovery during winter operation
Reduced indoor humidity swings
Improved air quality and comfort
Balanced airflow throughout the home
PROJECT RESULTS
A Fully Electrified Home with Modern Comfort and Air Quality
The completed system provides a fully electric heating and cooling solution designed for long-term performance, efficiency, and indoor comfort.
With both the HVAC system and ventilation system upgraded, the home now operates as a coordinated mechanical system aligned with modern building standards.
This project reflects VisionAiry Heating & Cooling’s focus on engineered comfort, proper system design, and complete mechanical solutions—not just equipment replacement.
